Twins’ parents travel between Kent and Surrey hospitals

A Kent couple whose twins were born three months early have said they feel torn in all directions after the babies were put in hospitals 50 miles apart.

Ruby and Krystal Dawson-Collins were born at Maidstone Hospital on 18 January, and transferred to St Peter’s Hospital, in Chertsey, Surrey.

Krystal has now been moved to Pembury Hospital, near Tunbridge Wells, while Ruby remains at St Peter’s Hospital.

Doctors said Ruby had not been well enough to be transferred with Krystal.

Stephanie Dawson and Martin Collins, who also have two other children, have to make a 120-mile round trip to visit the twins from their home in Maidstone.

Ms Dawson said it was hard not being able to spend enough time with each of her daughters.

“And it’s the fact that they’re not together, and I’d like them to be together,” she said.

Mr Collins added that his partner often broke into tears at the end of the day “because she just doesn’t know where to be”.

Doctors at St Peter’s said the long separation had not been planned, and they hoped the twins would soon be together.
