Former prep school head Peter Dix answers your questions.
Q Peter, we read with horror that Apple is producing a program that allows schoolchildren to use their iPads rather than textbooks. Is this really the way of the future?
John and Mary Bridge, London
A Apple has indeed launched a new version of its iBooks software that will allow publishers to create interactive textbooks for pupils with iPads. The new textbooks offer a range of functions: embedded videos, links from body text into glossaries, images that turn into slide shows and multiple-choice tests which can be instantly assessed. Students would be able to create notes by highlighting text with their fingers, and then review all of their notes in one place, instantly creating a tailor-made set of study cards.
