AN extra 500 Londoners have backed the Evening Standard’s Get London Running campaign by signing up to enter the capital’s Sport Relief Mile – with even a two-year-old promising to join in.
Following the surge of support in the past few days, there are now more than 3,500 involved in the event to help raise money for the city’s most deprived people. Almost 1,000 readers have come forward since the London Mile campaign was launched two weeks ago.
It comes after the Dispossessed Fund joined forces with Sport Relief to transform the lives of the capital’s most vulnerable. About 30,000 Londoners are expected to sign up for the race on Sunday March 25, which takes in The Mall and some of London’s best known sights.
Those entering the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, can choose a one-mile, three-mile or six-mile event. A host of celebrities have pledged their support for the Standard’s campaign, including Olympic legend Dame Kelly Holmes and 2012 gold hopefuls Christine Ohuruogu, Rebecca Adlington and Keri-Anne Payne.
