The security footage shows a mother standing next to her baby’s pram on the platform. As she looks away for a few seconds it slowly rolls away and tumbles onto the railway track below.

Incredibly, the pram rolls right in front of a man on the platform, who remains oblivious to the terrifying incident about to unfold.

As the pram fell, the mother can be seen dashing across the platform and jumping onto the tracks to pull it to safety.

Station officials confirmed that the baby was rescued uninjured before the next train arrived.

The incident at Fairfield station late last year is understood to be one of three involving prams rolling off platforms in 2011 alone.
