The Country
Mozambique is, like the majority of African States, generally very poor. Over the years it has faced the challeges of Portuguese rule, civil war and famine. However, with the help of International Aid agencies the government in beginning to pull the country our of poverty.
However, the people of Mozambique still have many challenges facing them. Floods in 2000 and 2001 ravaged the country and many people are still struggling to recover from them. Currently 650,000 are officially described as in need of receiving food assistance.

The Area
The district of Changara is located approximately 140 Km to the South of the provincial capital of Tete. Among the pressing needs for the community, the community ranks education, health and water supply as the greatest. All the people in the Changara area are in need but there are some groups that are particularly vulnerable. The Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in the area are one of the groups that need most help. These children have often been orphaned by HIV/AIDS and have no secure home or way of earning a living.

Borehole Construction Project
World Vision Mozambique
The Construction of the borehole will allow 84 Orphans and Vulnerable children (OVCs) in Changara district to collect water. This in turn will allow them to grow and sell vegetables. With the money they earn from this, they will be able to pay for and receive healthcare, clothing, shelter and schooling.
Many thanks for support our fundraising efforts. With the support of people like you, the Orphans
and Vulnerable Children in the Changara District will be able to have access to clean water and earn a living for themselves

The Need One of the problems facing the OVC's in the area is that they are conscripted into the sex trade or other hard labour. As their parents have been killed by HIV/AIDS there are few other ways for them to make enough money to feed themselves and any siblings they may have to look after. They have few skills and as a result of this, they can also become ostracised from their community. The Solution
The project aims to bring these children hope and a means of supporting themselves and those around them. It will achieve this by constructing a borehole from which the local people can collect water. Sustainability
This project will be sustained in two different ways. The government of Mozambique will provide support for training materials. Alongside this, some of the proceeds from the vegetables sold will be used in the long-term repair and maintenance of the project. |

As you can see from the budget World Vision UK is looking for £4,285 to complete the project. Any donations we raise over this figure will put towards sending a local Bromley person to visit the project, and funds remaining following this expenditure will hopefully be put towards a second similar borehole construction project. The type of projects considered a priority will however be left to the expertise of World Vision. Parent Pages will itemize and report on exact numbers of Tangles distributed to local schools. A school accepting 1000 Tangles should exchange each Tangle for £1.00 and should therefore raise £1000. The participating school will keep £250 for their school fund and return £750 to Parent Pages. Parent Pages will accept the return of all left over Tangles still in the original packaging. Parent Pages will forward £250 from each £1000 donated to World Vision. The remaining 50% will be put towards the cost of the Tangles. |
