Families living in Chelmsford are the happiest in the country, according to a survey.
The nationwide study of 3,000 families found those who live in the Essex commuter-belt town were most content with their situation.
A large percentage ranked their quality of life as ‘very good’ thanks to a short commute, manageable workload and a reasonable amount of quality time together.
The report also found they were more likely to have a close circle of friends and a strong of relatives living nearby to call upon in an hour of need.
Britain’s second happiest families live in the naval port of Portsmouth, while those in Gloucester were third.
The Scottish city of Edinburgh was fourth in the list, while the vibrant city of York was fifth.
Families in Aberystwyth emerged as the unhappiest with London in second place.
Those in London said they found it harder to maintain a relaxed and comfortable family life in the capital.
