Could you be our next Parent Pager?
Parent Pages is an ever-expanding free source of information for families with children, babies and teenagers, and pregnant mums. In January 2010 we had over 204,000 page views. That’s over 2000 unique visitors a day looking for something. These visitors were from all corners of the UK. From Plymouth in Devon to Plumstead in South London.
We need YOU to help us keep the site updated and relevant.
Why do parents and families visit the Parentpages site?
Parentpages is a resource of information for families.
The article section on the site is updated daily and all the articles and blogs pretty much relate to all things that are likely to be relevant to people whose lives revolve around children, babies, pregnancy, teenagers, grandparents, step families, and more.
The directory section of the site is searched using the drop-down options in the centre of the page. This section is divided by category and subcategory, and then by County and then borough/district. Parents use our site like a ‘specialised’ family version of the Yellow Pages or Thomson local directories. Any company, organisation or individual offering something for families or children can have a free listing on the site. If someone wants to appear at the top of the results page in their category and also benefit from text, image, profile page and a cherry on the top, they pay £82.50 per year. Not bad..?
How can we make the site really useful for all these users?
Without a team, quite simply, we can’t.
We need people on the ground – all over the country, making a daily contribution to the site. In the same way that Wikipedia relies on a network of contributing experts to update and approve their content – so must we.
Other ‘mumsy’ sites around take a similar approach to Wikipedia. Mumsnet and Netmums both rely on voluntary contributions from enthusiastic amateurs. Contributors are usually mums at home with kids who have a little spare time on their hands and are looking for companionship and a challenge, but not an income.
At Parent Pages we have decided on an approach which can be very financially rewarding for contributing Parent Pagers. Our proposal combines the structure of a franchise, without the expense of upfront fees, or the pressure of constantly having to meet someone else’s targets.
