The time-consuming and mundane chore of laundry could soon be banished to history, with an invention that harnesses the power of our own competitiveness.
Lee Wei Chen, a 27-year-old student at Kingston University, London, has invented a fiendishly clever combination of a video game and a washing machine.
Housed in the classic arcade-game cabinet, the top half is a challenging coin-operated driving game, while the bottom half is a front-loading washer. Even if it was just a novel way to pass the time as the washing machine ran through it’s yle, Mr Chen’s idea would be a worthy one.
But wait, as advertisers say, there’s more.

But ‘inspirational’ Gemma doesn’t let it get her down
She hopes to become a DJ and dreams of meeting Radio 1′s Edith Bowman
A girl has a one in 70 million genetic condition, which means doctors expect her to get ovarian cancer within the next few years.
Gemma Whitby, 14, suffers from WAGR Syndrome – a disorder affecting fewer than 100 people worldwide. She was diagnosed shortly after birth, developing cataracts just after she was born and kidney cancer at the age of two. However Gemma refuses to let her condition get her down.
Her mother Fiona, 40, said: ‘You just wouldn’t believe the obstacles she has overcome.
‘You read all the time about inspirational children, but she really is one.’
The teenager from Bury, Greater Manchester, beat kidney cancer but her condition – which also made her blind – means she is much more likely to also develop ovarian cancer.

Cameron Thompson is a 14-year-old maths prodigy from north Wales. He passed with high grades at maths GCSE and A-level and is now taking an Open University degree in pure maths. So what does it feel like to be a teenager growing up with raging hormones and a towering intellect?
At the age of 11, Cameron sat a school entrance maths test.
“One hundred and forty one out of 140, I broke the system, I think I did well,” he says.
At the same age, he sailed through two GCSEs in maths and additional maths, and in the same year passed his maths A-level with flying colours. But being brilliant at maths has become Cameron’s entire identity, and trying to fit in at school and develop his social skills has somehow become left behind in a desire to escape mediocrity.
