Sugar bag baby 21 years on: One of UK’s youngest surviving premature babies celebrates getting the key to the door

Jessica Phelan weighed less than a bag of sugar when she was born at just over 23 weeks and four days. But the youngster, who was Britain’s youngest surviving premature baby at her birth, has overcome all the odds to celebrate her 21st birthday.

Jessica weighed only one pound three ounces at birth and one photo taken by her parents in hospital reveals she was only slightly longer than a PENCIL.Doctors feared the worst following Jessica’s birth at St James’s Hospital in Leeds, Yorks, and at one stage told mother Donna and father David they should consider turning off the life support….Continue Reading
